Under herethe whole time.
A typeface is a tone of voice.
Nine faces, the same three words set in each. Six of the seven sites hold two scripts on one baseline.
Takes
Most of what I build never ships.
Every project here was built four to nine times before one was chosen. The choosing is the part you are hiring, so the rejects stay visible.
Included
There is one thing on offer. It comes whole.
Not a menu, not tiers. You get a website, and this is what a website means here.
Process
Five steps, and you decide at the third.
This is the actual sequence, not a tidied-up version of it.
You say what it is for.
What the site has to do, who lands on it, and what you need them to do once they are there. If the brief is thin I will make a call and tell you what I decided.
The look comes out of your world, not a style menu.
Every trade has its own materials, documents and habits. Those are where the design comes from, which is why it cannot be pasted onto a competitor without anyone noticing.
You choose from four to nine real heroes.
Each one is a genuinely different idea rather than the same layout in new colours, and each one already runs in a browser. This is the only decision I will not make for you.
I attack the one you picked.
At desktop and at phone width, against a written checklist, and I remove one element. There is always one. A critique that changes nothing was not honest.
It ships.
The full page built out from the winning hero, deployed, then the same critique run again section by section so the energy does not die after the first screen.
Questions
Before you email.
What do I actually get?
A website. Designed and built by the same person, deployed and live, on your own domain if you have one.
Can you work in Japanese?
Yes. Six of the seven sites hold Japanese and Latin type on one baseline, which is a different job from running English copy through a translator and hoping the layout survives.
Do I choose the design?
Yes, and not from pictures. You will see four to nine real coded heroes and pick one. If none of them are right, that is useful information and we go again.
What do you need from me?
Words, photographs, and decisions. The words matter most. No amount of design rescues copy that nobody wrote, and real photography beats anything generated.
Can I see the work that did not ship?
All of it. The rejected takes are on this page, and three of the projects have their full gallery of heroes with the losing ones struck through.
Studio
There is no studio. One person, seventeen, working out of Tokyo.
The work is free for now. Ask why.
Tell me what it is for.
I will build you nine.
